Firefighters Dealing With Hotspots
The Long Lake wildfires complex has been held to an estimated 8468 hectares, with ongoing smoke conditions in the Annapolis County area, and crews working to address hot spots that emerge due to dry conditions.
SEPTEMBER 24: The Long Lake wildfire complex is currently contained at an estimated 8,468 hectares. Access controls remain in effect around the active wildfire zone. Dry conditions continue to present challenges for crews, but potential rainfall on Friday is expected to aid suppression efforts.
The current resource allocation includes 3 helicopters, 4 planes/bird dog, 5 pieces of heavy equipment, and 5 water tankers. Firefighting personnel on-site comprise 24 DNR members, 20 Parks Canada members, 5 PEI members, and supporting staff. It is important to note that NWT planes are currently undertaking flights for recertification purposes and are not actively engaged in firefighting efforts.
